Cheney is one of the oldest towns in the Inland
Northwest. Surrounded by pine woods and gently rolling hills, it
offers an interesting and exciting mix of attractions. It is a town
with a rich agricultural heritage that has retained a
"small-town" atmosphere although it is only 15 minutes from
the "big-city" attractions of Spokane. Cheney
offers the best of both worlds – economic opportunity and small-town
comfort – and continues to grow in popularity.
-
It boasts a modern
library, active parks & recreation department (which offers more
than 300 activities year-round) and a historical museum.
-
Cheney is home to Eastern Washington University
(EWU), renowned for its Teacher Education programs.
-
Cheney
residents, as well as students, can use the sports facilities at
EWU.
-
The fine arts center holds regular art exhibits,
concerts and plays, which can be enjoyed throughout the year.
-
Cheney boasts 50 lakes within 50 miles, making
it convenient to participate in many popular outdoor activities,
including fishing, boating and swimming.
-
The Turnbull Wildlife Refuge is just 6 miles from
Cheney. It features numerous hiking trails with lookouts for
observing wild birds in their natural settings.
-
Visit one of the many local golf courses for some of
the finest golfing anywhere.
-
Travel just a little further and enjoy the great
skiing that's available in the Pacific Northwest.
-
All of this, and the community continues to record one
of the lowest crime rates for a city of its size in the state of
Washington.
Welcome to Cheney. Take advantage of all it
has to offer.
